Carmignano can be discovered flying on the wings of a rainbow: the green hills, the brown earth, the silver olives, the chromatic harmony of Pontormo’s Visitation, a pearl of art to admire in the parish church of San Michele.

The colour of the sky and an unparalleled view bring us to Rocca, fascinating by day, romantic by night. Carmignano is beauty as far as the eye can see, a small municipality made up of towns and villages scattered throughout the soft hills, streaked with rows of vineyards and dotted by olive groves. A territory rich in places waiting to be discovered: Etruscan burial sites, Romanesque churches and the Medici Villa of Artimino, a UNESCO heritage site.

Looking up from the Medici Villa in Artimino, towards the ridge of Montalbano, one glimpses a crown of trees that conceal the Etruscan settlement of Pietramarina. A unique collection of artefacts discovered in Carmignano are conserved in the Archaeological Museum of Artimino, home to extraordinary grave goods from the burial sites of Prato Rosello and Comeana

The sites are immersed in a territory known for its nature and landscape, among the most beautiful in Tuscany, among sky and sea.

Immersed in divine aromas

Inebriating aromas of must mix with earthy smells, which gift us with a uniquely fragrant wine: the Carmignano DOCG, to which we can add the unmistakable green gold, the oil of excellence. The sugary sweetness of the pulp unites with the pungent smell of aniseed in the one-of-a-kind dried fig, protected by Slow Food. It’s not rare in Carmignano to smell the aroma of almonds as it invades the town’s piazza when the famous amaretto biscuits are being cooked, delicious mouthfuls of an ancient recipe.

Beauty within reach

Art is a witness to the men that have lived in Carmignano, evidenced by the vivid colours of Alberto Moretti’s works, with their play of chromatic colours, and the green, blue and red of the Parco Museo Quinto Martini in Seano, one of most vast museum parks in Europe. A garden magnificently surrounded by the evocative Carmignano hills, home to thirty-six bronze sculptures which offer an itinerary made of moments frozen in time, where one can come to take a walk when they want to refresh body and spirit. Indeed, it is always open.

Among the many celebrations that liven up our town, San Michele is the most significant: passion, colours, poetry and a small performance that the four neighbourhoods (white, blue, yellow, green) prepare for months and which unfold for three days at the end of September.

But Carmignano also celebrates and says their cheers for Calici di Stelle, when, on every August 10, the ancient Rocca becomes a splendid theatre of tastings and music.
